EPISTLE of Archbishop Antony (Orloff) to the hierarchs who are boycotting the Sobor
16 , 2006 . - 23:13
ENGLISH_VERSION
The editors are publishing copies received of the personal epistles of Archbishop Antony (Orloff) addressed to each hierarch who is boycotting the Sobor.

An excerpt from an article of Bishop Victor of Slavyansk and Southern Russia:

Indeed our most basic concern for the Church forces us to come to the skete of the First Hierarch,
put in utter isolation, with no access to either the monastery church [Holy Transfiguration] or to Metropolitan, who has been cut off from leading the Church and by now completely stripped of ability to direct it. In such a catastrophic state is the leadership of the Church at this moment, and it cannot continue this way any longer.

However, our hierarchs Vladimir, Antony (Rudei), Bartholomew, and Anastasy, willing to accept this, are boycotting attempts to correct the situation, and did not show up for the Sobor, although at least ten invitations were sent: four written invitations from Metropolitan, two written and several telephone invitations from the Assistant to the First Hierarch. This boycott can only mean that they are entirely appeased by Prot. Zhukov and Mrs. Roznyanskaya being in full control

To His Eminence Anastasy,
Bishop of Vladivostok and the Far East

Epistle from the Assistant to the First Hierarch of ROCOR, Archbishop Antony

Your Eminence,

After our last telephone conversation, once more I sincerely implore you to appear at the Hierarchical Sobor without delay, in conjunction with the catastrophic situation of the Church Leadership: the isolation of Metropolitan Vitaly and the drastic worsening of the state of his health, to such a point that he does not recognize his own Assistant.

The Hierarchical Sobor is ready to receive you after repentance and to hear your explanation for your absence at the Sobor, despite all of your promises to attend. As I have already told you, your visa to Canada has been ready and in effect since July 6, 2006.

As to the fact that few days remain until the conclusion of meetings at the Sobor, I am requesting you arrive at the Sobor no later than July 13/26 of this year. In the event of unforeseen delay, I will even receive you later.

Please inform me immediately of your decision by telephone: 818-632-2517.

Your Eminence,

Again I sincerely implore you to urgently come to the Hierarchical Sobor. Father Yakov has agreed to assist and accompany you to Mansonville.

The situation of the Church Leadership is catastrophic, regarding the complete isolation of Metropolitan Vitaly and the drastic worsening of his state of health, to the point of inability to recognize his own Assistant. Many questions, which can no longer be put off, have accumulated, which require a speedy decision.

As to the fact that few days remain until the conclusion of the meetings at the Sobor, I am requesting you fly to the Sobor no later than July 13/26 of this year. In the event that health conditions prevent you from flying, I also request that you inform me of this by telephone without delay: 818-632-2517.

The Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia under the Omophorion of Metropolitan Vitaly

No. 15/06/M
July 10/23, 2006
Most Blessed Antony of Kiev-Pechersky

UKAZ (Declaration)

By the power given to me by God, as the Assistant to the First Hierarch, chosen by the hierarchical
Sobor in the year 2005, I consider it my duty to assume temporary leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in light of the following:

1. The very recent discovery of the incapacity of the First Hierarch to fulfill his direct obligations by reason of his memory loss to the point of non-recognition of his own Assistant and Episcopate;

2. The publication of contradictory and false declarations, altering the contents, after the signature of the First Hierarch;

3. The malicious isolation of the First Hierarch of ROCOR, Most Blessed Metropolitan Vitaly;

I do ask clergy and parishioners to exercise the necessary obedience for the normalization of
Church life and I humbly ask for your prayers.

With the fear of God I begin my administration with further declarations to follow.

Vice President to the Hierarchical Synod,
Assistant to the First Hierarch of ROCOR
+ Archbishop Antony (signature)
